Does anyone know if it's likely that express shipping from yesasia will get charged with customs fees in Australia??

meivu - well they use FedEx (though my box also had DHL label on it), but my understanding is you shouldn't be required to pay broker fees if you don't owe duties. Since Aus has an INSANELY high duty-free threshold ($1000 AUD), you shouldn't be required to pay broker fees. Broker fees are required when a service pays customs duties for you to get your package entered into your country. It's like "Okay, we paid for you, now pay us back plus a small fee for fronting these charges for you." Now UPS charges them (broker fees) regardless, but YA doesn't use UPS. This is just what I've gathered from researching the topic. :3 EDIT: customs fee ("duties") and broker fees are two separate fees. ^^ if your package is merchandise under $1000 AUD, you won't be charges duties. ^^ I don't live in Aus, but that rate is on the official customs website. ^^

I was trying to look at lists to see what was duty-free and calculating stuff because I have a big order from yja coming that is well over $200. The website I was using the calculator on said that cds, trading cards, and books were all duty-free. So if I have all of that even if my order is over $200 I won't get charged customs at all? What about if I have an item in there that isn't duty-free. Just one that let's say is like $150. I won't get charged customs then right because my only non duty-free item is less than $200? I live in the US by the way.

seaturtle31 - It really depends on what they write on the customs form on the outside of the box. Like my huge Japamart Haul of Ming things only said "books and photos" on it, when I had things like stickers, phone straps, keychains, etc. in it (although, there were two books, four magazines, and several polaroids inside). So it really depends on how they mark the package. I chose for the full value to be put on it, because it would be my luck $200+ of things would get lost in the mail. In truth, I spent about $120 on the items themselves, but what with shipping fees and commission fees, my costs were nearly doubled. I wasn't charged anything though. I've never been charged any customs fees, but I'm really careful to order under $200 worth of goods (knock on wood). I know trading cards and books are duty-free coming into the US, regardless of the country they're being imported from. CDs I'm not too sure about. It could be that JAPANESE CDs are because the US and Japan may have some sort of trade agreement, but I think otherwise, CDs are taxable goods when coming into the US. I can't be too sure though. Honestly, I really think it depends all on what ISC employee you get, and if they decide to add taxes/duties onto your package or not. orz
